More Information

Chlamydia is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection in the UK, affecting as many as 1 in 10 people. Most people don't know they have it because typically there are no symptoms. It can stay undetected for months or years, and left untreated the infection can spread and cause serious long term problems that can affect fertility and sexual health in both men and women. This risk is increased if you are infected again and again.

Taking a Clamelle Chlamydia Test

A simple urine test is all you need to confirm whether or not you have chlamydia. Post the urine sample off directly to the designated laboratory. You will then be sent a result letter by post, within seven days. Alternatively you can return to the pharmacy from which you purchased your kit for your test result.

Positive Test Result

Don't worry - just go back to the pharmacy where you bought the test or any participating pharmacy offering a Clamelle chlamydia service. The pharmacist will provide you with appropriate sexual health advice and following consultation you can purchase Clamelle tablets if the pharmacist confirms the treament is suitable for you.
You will need your result letter or your verification tear off slip with your Unique Reference Number (URN) to do this.

Inconclusive Test Kit

Very occasionally the test resukt may be inconclusive and you will need to repeat the test. Simply go back to the pharmacy from which you purchased your test kit, or another pharmacy participating in the Clamelle chlamydia service, taking with you the verification slip, and they will give you a replacement test kit free of charge.

Who can use the Clamelle Test

Anyone 16 years of age or older who does NOT have any symptons of chlamydia or other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Remeber most people do not have any symptoms of chlamydia. If you do have any symptoms suggestive of chlamydia, or other STIs, or you are under 16 years old the test is NOT suitable for you; You will need to visit a GUM clinic, other NHS sexual health venue or your GP.
